Pobam Music Inc.

POBAM (Preservation of Black American Music)  is an independent record label
based in Houston, Texas specializing in JAZZ, as well as R&B, and HipHop.  The label was
created as a tribute and honor to the late great Jazz Saxophonist Fred Ford of Memphis
Tennessee.  

POBAM was founded as a result of hard work and struggles by many Memphis area musician.  
After many years of musical endeavors, these musicians are now legends, icon
s, genius and
pioneers of their times.   However, many of them were not recognized pass that great community of
Beale Street USA.  The infant stages of POBAM was conceived many years ago by Fred Ford and a
few of his followers.  The vision was to create a label that would carry on the legacy and tradition of
Beale Street music.  With a background that has span over five decades in the Memphis sound, Mr.
Fred Ford is the driving forces behind PobamMusic.  Fred had enough foresight to preserve and
record this great history, so that generation to come w
ould enjoy.

Fred was one of the first and original organizers of '"Beale Street music festival" in 1977.   Fred also
was a music producer.  In 1975 Fred produced an album for Mr. Phineas (Finas) Newborn, whom
was considered to be one of the greatest pianist ever, comparing him to the great Art Tatum.  This
album was nominated for a Grammy.  Also, during those years Fred went on to produce an album
for Cybil Sheppard titled (Vanilla) with his Beale Street USA Orchestra, which featured Phineas
Newborn on piano.  He also recorded with many of the greats, while a member of the Johnny Otis
band...i.e. Artists like Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Big Mama Thornton, Clarence Gatemouth
Brown, BB King, Rufus Thomas, and later in his career artists like Alex Chilton, Charlie Rich,
Charlie Wood and Calvin Owens just to name a few.

He also released a few albums of his own such as, Bear Water The Beale Street Scene and
Madame Honey buns which will be digitally remastered on POBAM very shortly.

Fred also had a live radio show three nights a week, which showcased many greats in the
Memphis area.  Many of them jammed with His trio (The Fred Ford and Honeymoon Garner Trio).  
Over the span of these years and many before them, Mr. Ford recorded a many sessions of great  
Memphis talent, and now! POBAM will be releasing to the world, for the first time!  Music lovers
around the country will be able to enjoy this captivated and cultivated  Memphis Music.
